Bits

A whole lot of folks took this advice and we have folks who made a career out of 'freedom" from a working career.  It must be nice to know you do not have a bill to worry about;  but that kind of security comes with a horrible price...no freedom...Most of us would rather work for  a living.

An upcoming barbeque. . .looks pretty tasty.  I didn't get an invitation so can't tell you if the food was good or not.  I'm betting it was delicious.    Maybe you will have one in the summer and invite me.   Hey Jock, salmon on the grill would be a special treat.   Maybe we can start thinking of a July Fourth celebration.

Even back in the 'good old days' somewhere int he 1800 hundreds earthquakes made short work of the railroad ties.   That is some engine.   old timer.

I have a new hairdo, went to Christine's lady and she snipped and cut and shaped then got out her comb and a hair dryer and went to work blowing it into a bouffant which I do not care for.  I will shampoo it today and get it back to size.   Glamorous I am not, have no intention of becoming so either;.    Christine treated me to a hairdo and it was a lot more than my lady barber in Brookings.  I miss Gina.  If any of you go by her shop , pop in and tell her I send best wishes and miss her.  One look in the mirror and it brought back the memory of my very first and last permanent when I was ten years old.   I came out looking like a round faced monkey with curls and kicked stones all the way home.  When I got in the door the folks laughed out loud and going to the sink and wetting it down didn't help a bit.   I never had another one and some of the current styles have the same effect.   The only redeeming fact was the hairdresser thought I had beautiful hair.   White is good!!!

I got back to the apartment around three after a nice bistro lunch with Christine.   We shared a sandwich that was huge and delicious and very green.  The coffee shop features home grown coffees and we had a short lecture on the growing of coffee as the young man behind the counter wanted to sell us some to take with us.   The coffee was excellent but the price isn't right for me.   Christine dropped me off and I got back in time for a ride up to my floor on the elevator  as the storm came through and shut off the power for hours, in fact it was ten p.m. before we got it back.   No TV;  No heat, No stove as it is electric, no hot soup for dinner, no hot tea....I'm deprived!!  But I had bought some chicken curry salad and that was tasty.  Grapes make a nice desert.  And a glass of water....not much you can say about that as it just does not have the coffee flavor.   I found my two battery candles and got out my book;  "Cold Harbour" by Jack Higgins.  A good read and I did finish it all.  At ten o'clock I had my hot tea , finished the book and lights out...I know they just got back on.....and I have to tell you it was very quiet around here.  I bet everyone was in bed by eight o'clock, or even earlier.    There were a couple of lanterns hanging in the hallway, no electricity , no elevators...no one tries to go down the dark stair wells.   I haven't found out what caused the outage but I am betting it had something to do with the quick deluge that came through with high winds.  It doesn't take much for the power to go out.

So my  early to bed made it especially early to rise and cooking bacon and eggs at four a.m. might cause a few words about early risers.   I didn't set off the alarm and that is a plus.    I'm off to change the bouffant to a skull cap;   wish me luck....enjoy the day and find something useful to do.    Don't forget the good deed.    Surprise someone you love, or even like, to a treat today;  how about an old fashioned banana split?

Be good, be kind, be gentle;   bear hugs are a specialty so share a couple today.    Be a hugger....give and get, that's only fair.   Hugs to all.
