Our Service Folks

a truism

George W. Bush, former president, never was to busy to stop and spend a little of his time with the troops.  He knew how to be a Commander and Chief.

A hug does wonders for a frighten little one in a war zone.

Try and tell these guys they can't say a prayer.

Not one, but four medals of honor for this veteran.

A volunteer army;  our troops;   we cannot do without them.    Say a prayer or two that they will survive and thrive.

Ground Hog day and he did not see his shadow so we will have an early spring, hopefully a sunshine one.   We have some preparation before that happens;  Lent is going to be here in a few more days and forty days seems like a long time to Easter Sunday, especially if you decide to give some one thing you love up for that time.   it isn't easy but it is worthwhile.    A little sacrifice is good for the body as well as the soul.    Remember it isn't all about chocolate bunnies and Easter baskets filled with jelly beans . . . save your money and put it in a church tithing basket for good deeds in honor of the memory of the crucifixion of a man called Jesus who had only thirty three years to try and teach goodness in a harsh world.   It hasn't changed much, has it?

But I m jumping ahead as we have Valentines to make and folks to greet .   I got to a store yesterday so found some of those candy hearts with sayings and a box of Valentines to fix up for those here in Ridgemont.    If all goes as planned I'll be able to send an electronic one on but sad to say it will be the last as the card folks wont take checks any more and I am not about to join pay pal as my time will be running out soon.   The new age of electronics has taken over.   Be careful, they will find a way to have a connection with your bank and you wont have to bother sending them approval.    Not for me.    I can't afford the regular cards anymore, when they reach a five dollar cost then it is time to quit.   Not everyone has a lucrative salary and can afford that kind of spending .    Really it is not being cheap, it is about being gouged that rustles the feathers.

Here at Ridgemont we have two new ladies.   They are not settled in as yet, but it wont take them long to find their way around.    One, Betty, is a new neighbor across the hall from me.    She is ninety-eight, a bit on the frail side.   She sat at our table yesterday and  was amazed at the routine for getting the drinks and food.    If she expected to be waited on she was in for a shock.   My first thought is to help but I have to stop as each one has to fend for themselves.  It is so hard to sit and watch the shaking hands try and lift a spoon or folk to the mouth due to Parkinson disease.   It is hard to watch them struggle out of a chair to walk over to pick up their food.   Watching them try to lift their plates on to the table is painful  but it is what it is and rules are rules.   We sometimes sneak a helping hand , after all isn't that what friends are for!

So today, look around and see who needs your helping hand.   Take a few of your seconds and do at least one good deed today.   There is someone who will sparkle because of YOU.    A kind word, a loving touch, the sound of your voice, and the sunshine of your smile makes the day worthwhile.     Be all you can be and more.  Hugs to all.
