Pumpkin time. . . Halloween is coming.....time to get ready.
The second week of October is starting and we have things to do...picking out a big pumpkin is one of them, sharpening the knife is another and choosing a face to carve out is easy for some and hard for others. I bought my candy to share so am almost ready. Thinking of getting a pumpkin basket to put the candy in but then I'd have to find a place to store it. Not much of that around here. A studio apartment is small so one cuts down on 'things' to have and that is not bad at all. As it is I have more 'trinkets' than I need or want, yet who could live without trinkets in their lives...not me....dust collectors make for memories and one cannot live without those. I have a tiny metal elephant that reminds me of Minnie and Hobo back in Rhode Island days. Going to the lake and enjoying cookouts, old records, and lots of love. I have a pelican that is hilarious and a gift from Patricia and Erin which reminds me of days in Connecticut, winter storms, icy roads and staying with a friend during a black out and cold feet because of no heat and linoleum on the floor....brrr!!!! Can still feel that. The piece of crystal that I held in my hand on the way up to Lake Tahoe and rubbed it for good luck and had some. Each little trinket has a tale to tell and often make me smile. Of course the shelves have books, books that have been read and will reread some day....maybe...but I doubt it, intentions are good but time gets in the way and there are books that have yet to be opened. I have learned over the years that a bookcase is one of the most necessary items in ones home. It is the heart of a room.
Yesterday was a quiet day at Ridgemont. The rainy weather kept most inside. Erin came to keep me company and we had a great visit and caught up. She leaves us tomorrow but this time it wont be a year or more before we see her. If all goes as planned she will be back by the end of December. I am sure she and Donaleo will be going to visit his folks in San Francisco and then plan a trip back up this way.
Christine had a busy day with visiting in-law company which she thoroughly enjoyed, the had time at the Gallery where there was a reception for the artists and well attended. The show this time is well done ...well hung as we say...one of the artists, Roy, does water scenes and this time he had three huge scenes that made the water move. You could feel the strength of the ocean. A couple of the artists paint flowers that look and feel real....a lot of talent and it makes one want to paint a picture or two. It really is a wonderful past time, but it does take talent to come up with a finished product that looks like the objects you have in mind to paint. I think everyone has the talent to draw and or paint but not everyone can make it look real. The fun is in the trying. . .so, today get out your paints and see what you can do. Hopefully you are in for a surprise or two. If not, mix the colors and be original.
Relax, be you, be good, be kind, be gentle. Take time to do one or even two good deeds today. Someone is in need of a hug...you have hugs to share so get busy. The beginning of a new day, a new week and a lot of time to share with someone you like and love. Just do not be selfish as YOU are the answer to someones prayer today. Be YOU and open up those arms and make magic. Hugs to all. |
