This was quite a surprise, a coffee mug from my original home town. Wow!! Wonder who thought that one up.
It is a truism...it is where I started from. say "Lynn" and a million tales of childhood come to mind. Robinson Street where the grammar school was located; Hills Field where the Barnum and Bailey Circus set up their big tents. Bowley Avenue that led over to Flint Street and the penny candy store. Wyman Street where everybody knew everybody. Neighbors watched over every child so you got away with 'nothing'. A league of nations neighborhood with two small stores on the corner of Wyman and Boston Streets; one the A&P, the other a First National grocery store and both grew into huge national stores. Sacred Heart Catholic Church on Boston Street. Federal Street where the General Electric started and grew and grew. Two huge commons leading to downtown Market Square and the movie theaters. Two full length movies and a serial for ten cents. Migraines Square. City Hall. . . yep!! A lot of memories. I wonder how it has changed. Back to reality. . . Jock cooked up two kinds of salmon for our dinner last night and Pat made up her grain dish to die for; one of my very favorites and I have some leftovers for later today. I could get used to this style of living; eating high on the hog and not have to work at it. I really do miss cooking though. I love to cook. It was yard sale Saturday and Pat found a medium size crock pot for me. Now I can cook up some delectable dishes in my tiny kitchen, even ribs cook up in the crock pot. We are thinking of what to have tonight as it is Jock's last evening with us. He is good company and fun to have around and we will miss him. He has enjoyed his stay but he has fishing to do and a hunting class to lead so he is getting a little antsy to get back to his own bailiwick. Speaking of ribs, a good idea, a slab of those might just do the trick. Jock is a master gardener and gave Christine a boost by planting her herb garden in her new garden box. He helped Pat with her garden and it looks great after two days of sunshine. For awhile we thought it was going o be a lost cause as it was cold and sunless and the plants looked like they were not coming along; two days of sunshine and they took off like lightening. We will have tomatoes before we know it. I'll be happy to pick them. So, get out there and garden. Get going and enjoy the fruits of your labor. There is nothing better for you than fresh fruits and vegetables that you grow yourself. A lot of effort, a little hard work and the eating world becomes one of delight as well as delicious. Pat thought she might like to grow a watermelon, I'd like to see that. Our Hoby used to grow them on a back fence and they were monsters and oh so delicious. I wish I could say I had a green thumb but I do not. I weed for my treats. Well someone has to do it. Be good, be kind, be gentle and go about today as if you owned the world. Take time to do one good deed; look around there is always a 'need'. Invite a neighbor in for a cup of coffee or tea, even a glass of ice water tastes good when shared. Be YOU today and make your corner of the world bright and beautiful. . . just like YOU. Hugs to all.
