A truism.
Here it is Tuesday, all day, what to do?? I have no plans this early in the morning but I am sure some one thing will develop before the day is over. I did get to the Gallery yesterday and attended the water color class. There were eight of us and the tables were set up , a paper taped down to a cardboard , water in a dish, three brushes to choose from, a paper plate with a dab of colors. The teacher talked a lot, showed brush strokes in her frame and gave us a packet of paper with instructions to learn by later. We did two pictures. We taped strips of tape onto a cardboard which later became a tree to paint . We followed instructions on another paper so we actually did two pictures. I was really disappointed because I thought water color was not like oil painting and it turned out to be just like it, or very close to it. I thought you did a sketch of what you wanted to paint. I thought you would learn a new and different method of painting. It was fun to try. I have two pictures I wouldn't share with anyone as it looks like I had a day in kindergarten. The artist meant well but she is not a teacher. She knows what she knows but had a problem imparting her knowledge to us. She has a style all her own and knows a lot about color, shading, shadows and is satisfied with her style; but...ah, there I go again. but.....as I said, not a teacher, and we didn't get to see any of the paintings finished, o goodbyes, no thank you to the teacher, no accolades, a strange ending to three hours of sloshing through a dish of water, stripping a tape and dabbing in dots of bright colors. To be an artist you have to have talent and some have it and some don't. It was not a lost cause though, we did dabble and we enjoyed trying to be an artist for one day. We put the Gallery back together, cleaned up our messes and put all those card tables back. I till don't know how to fold the legs without pinching my fingers. I just tilted them over and let Christine do the hard part. I am thinking of taking a camera shot of the two pictures but I think you have had enough comedy in your life for one day. It was good to get home, take off the shoes and settle in for the rest of the evening. I had left over Haddock to eat up and it was just as tasty as the original serving. it was very quiet here at Ridgemont, not a creature was stirring, all locked in and hunkered down for the night. I owe Christine a dinner out for all her good deeds, but last night was not the right time as she was exhausted after a very busy day and I was not sulking, but a bit disappointed in finding out that water color isn't as much fun as painting in oils. Some would disagree, I know, but at least I know where I want to put my time and illusive talents. To each his own, and may we all sprout wings of great talent when we next take a paint brush in hand. Go....be an artist.....do what you love to do best. some take a needle in hand and make pictures that are fantastic; others take a brush in hand and make scenes that are an invitation to beautiful places and faces. Do what 'moves' you and enjoy your seconds having 'fun' and enjoying the wealth of your talents. Meanwhile, you have places to go, things to do and a few folks to meet and greet today. Be good, be kind, be gentled . . . share YOU with those you love and like. Remember that bear hug you give may be the only one received today; make it a good one, a remembrance of a little bit of love. We can all use some of that. Hugs to all. |
