Christine and the other board members invited the Volunteers to a dinner last evening. Christine picked me up and it was pouring buckets over here in my area, but calm and bright over where the restaurant is. The dinner was set up for outside but a black cloud moved in and sprinkles started so it was opted to go inside. It is a funky little restaurant which was formerly a church. The young lady that owns it does a great job and has some original funky designs in the interior from old worn doors to tiny shelves with very old 'stuff' on them. It is cute and clever and the food is always good. Pat and I helped Chris with a few last minute chores then the volunteers began to arrive. So many familiar faces , hugs and smiles, a great bunch of folks. The clouds passed quickly but we were all settled in and the food was ready, as we were. Sally, the President of the Gallery Board gave a welcoming speech. Louie had a few words to say and our newest volunteer showed up. I would venture to say that a good time was had by all and the spirit of the volunteers lives on.
If you remember, I once said I would never, but never, do a fifteen hundred piece puzzle ever again because it took so much space to lay out the pieces. It is a fact I ignored when I put the newest puzzle on the puzzle board. It does fit, but a lot of the pieces are still in a box and you know the one I am looking for is no where on the pieces on the board and cannot be found in the box. This one could take forever to do, that's what I get for changing my mind. I'll be humming and sprouting nursery rhymes for months to come. I see pieces of Jack in the Bean stock; The Three little Pigs, Cinderella and more. I think if and when it is finished it should be glued and made into a picture for a little one. I wonder if the children of today do see and hear the old nursery rhymes. There is a piece of the frame missing. I think YOU should come and help.
News from Gold Beach was good as Jock went fishing and caught three BIG ones. Wish we were there to have some salmon on the grill. We will have to get smart and find a half way spot on one of those Oregon beaches. Maybe we could have Jock supply some of that fresh catch and convince one of the hotel chefs to cook it up for us or have a cook out on the beach. Some life changes are just not as much fun and giving up some old habits is a bit more difficult that we thought. You remember that old adage about 'distance makes the heart grow fonder ....and it's ending and b.s. makes the grass grow longer' a bit irreverent but a truism. Isn't it strange that we learn the hard way about change. We all yearn for it but when it comes we have a hard time adjusting to it. That "grass is always greener' comes to mind. Well, change is inevitable so there is not use complaining as it doesn't make it easy. We adjust readily and surprise ourselves with 'getting on' with our life and it becomes the new reality.
So if you have changes coming up, try accepting them willingly and it will make a much easier road for you to travel on. Looking back should go into the memory banks. Adjusting and making the best of things is more in tune with living life now and not hunkering down with regrets. Your seconds are important and should never be wasted on lingering or hankering for what used to be. Life is today....to be lived....to be enjoyed.....one second as it comes. As the great wit, Erma Bombeck, reminded us in one of her wonderful rants, don't waste your seconds, live them. No saving the best for someone else to use; dig all those good things out and make good use of them yourself and do it today. Everyone is allowed to be a little selfish, it is good for the heart and the soul, and 'little' is the key word. So today, practice how to be good to YOU . . . share YOU with those you like and love. Be good, be kind, be gentle and start with a stop at church and light a candle for those you miss. Call a shut-in and give them a little of your seconds as you send a loving message across the wires. Send an e-mail with words that cheer the spirit. Knock on a door and get a bear hug in greeting and have a day to remember. Hugs to all.
